Meet Barack Obama

Reader Comments (3)

Thanks for posting this, Joe.

Barack Obama is the first candidate I have ever seen, for any major office, who makes me genuinely excited about the possibilities. I've liked a few (very few) candidates in the past 25 years, but I absolutely love Obama. I couldn't be happier that he's running. On the day after his speech at the Democratic Convention in 04, I posted a comment on his website begging him to run in 08. On the day he announced his exploratory committee, I donated money to him (and I'll donate again next year). He's the real deal. He's exactly the President we need, a perfect anti-Bush.

He reminds me of JFK, not simply because he's young, charismatic, and an amazing public speaker, but because he is challenging the people in the US to step up and take responsibility for solving the tough problems. He hasn't quite said, "Ask not what your country ..." but he's come darn close. I'll take that every day over the so-called Party of Personal Responsibility's agenda, which boils down to: every man for himself, grab what you can in the short term, saddle your children with impossible problams, and may the devil take the hindmost. Barack Obama treats us like grownups, expecting us to be part of the solution. He has my vote, and the votes of everyone I can possibly persuade.

Oh wow, I have goosebumps. I'm not even American, and I want to jump up and shout my support. This man is amazing. If America doesn't elect him to office, South Africa will gladly take him. His heart is in the right place.

Rob - I disagree with the "anti-Bush": I think his whole person is just being pro-the right stuff. I don't even think it has crossed his mind to be anti anyone: he just wants what is right and healthy and the best. What I see is a person that is incredibly logical and aware of what needs to be done right now, to make things better. And he wants to unite people in that, rather than be some form of opposition. Everyone wants the "good stuff": get rid of unemployment, ensure there is a healthy environment when your grandchildren are your age, live in peace etc. He's just saying, hey! Remember these things and let's focus on them, and he actually gets his hands dirty in doing that. Sorry for the long rambling! I'm completely inspired... :)

Adi - Oh, I didn't mean anti-Bush that way. I mean he's the opposite of Bush. In low-level computer terms, Bush is a zero and Obama is a one. heh...
