Why is there ANY resistance to impeachment?

It is a crime to lie to the United States Congress. Bush lied to get us to invade Iraq. That constitutes a crime. And the results of that lie have been far FAR more serious than when Clinton lied about his affair. Yet many of the same folks who still trash Clinton every chance they get (and for the record, I am not a fan) - somehow these folks think there's no reason to impeach Bush. This is pure hypocrisy.

Pelosi has said that impeachment is off the table. Obama has said that he does not favor impeachment (that is why I removed the Obama banner from this site -- there's a lot I like about the man, and if he wins the Dem nomination, I will most probably vote for him). The ONLY reason why these folks would not support impeachment is politics. They are afraid to do what is right and noble and honorable. They do not want to offend potential donors.

We need a lot more honesty.

Remember that everyone in Congress took an oath to uphold the Constitution. Just because the Executive Branch has negated the Constitution doesn't mean everyone else can, too.

I am truly disgusted, and we are truly screwed.

wow, I LOVE the way you think. Yeah, I can't understand it. Makes me highly suspicious. For awhile I waltzed around with this scenario that NP wouldn't support it so it wouldn't appear a conflict of interest when she was next in line for Presidency.I do NOT support Obama. Don't know enough, the mainstream media mentions him almost every day which is enough to make me leery. I like Obama but he's NOT the one for president. There was absolutely NO reason for him to speak out against impeachment and that's when I withdrew any support for him, as well.People say that it really doesn't effect us who is in office and I disagree HEARTILY. These closet-republicans and I'm no fan of the clintons, either ---- are screwing us all.good post. Thank you.

Joe:

I'm definitely disappointed, "I will most probably vote for him." I thought you were Green. I was hoping that you would throw away your vote on a Green candidate. Where's Ralph Nader when the Repubs really need him?

:)

BTW, impeachment is always about politics. It is a political process. Get enough votes together and you can toss the scoundrel out. I don't know this as fact, but believe that, in the case of presidential impeachments, the party in power in the House is not the party of the President. In other words, Repubs don't impeach Repubs and Dems don't impeach Dems. Funny how that works. Politics!

I am not for impeachment for the only reason that all the other activities of congress will come to a grinding halt. Impeachment proceedings take so much time that nothing else can get done by congress. I know it is a difficult decision - is it better to focus on impeachment or the other issues of the country. It was a huge waste of time and energy impeaching Clinton.

Mad is correct - Impeachment is a political process. What gets me is the folks who say "we can't have an impeachment at this time, since the country is in such a crisis".

Think about it - the only time Impeachment is seen as a solution is when the problem is a crisis.

And, Mad, we have a Constitutional Crisis of the highest magnitude going on here. Francisco Franco is looking up from his circle of Hell, and smiling at the Good Work that W and his boys are doing up here.

Your post reminded me of a bumper sticker I saw awhile back that went something like, "Nobody died when Clinton lied."
